After 7 months this lamp appeared to have failed completely. I previously had a problem with the lamp going into blinking failure mode after even very brief power outage spurts. And I’d have to reboot. This time it went out on its own, several months since the last power failure. I had rebooted it four times with about five-ten minutes between turning it off and rebooting again. Came upstairs and revised this original review, then ordered another this time with a sleeve. Funny, the UV unit made a slight buzzing noise now as it always did when running properly. But the blinking red light an beeper stay on even though I rebooted it several times. After giving up and ordering another, I went down to the basement and plugged it in again. This time, it did successfully reboot–got past the blinking red light and beeping. I decided not to cancel my order, as this lamp seems to be unstable and I don’t want to go without drinking water or risk bacteria in the filtered water. My water tech guy said there was no need to replace the filter sleeve, but it is so little extra, cost-wise, I went for that option. I am unsure whether this machine/light turning off after any kind of power outage is normal. It never happened at all with the Viqua brand name light, and we had our share of power outages. The original OEM lasted 20 months. At any rate I am buying this spare to have it on hand. The warranty is only 30 days Viqua warranted theirs for 12 months. This one is a very good deal though, and shipping was very fast. Earlier review is below.Very good price; Works well, but takes a while to finish booting, I thought the light had failed after I’d had it installed and we plugged the Viqua control unit back up. It took a long time to go through flashing red lights starting at the top down. The one critical red light half way down and to the left, remained flashing red, for at least a couple of minutes. We actually unplugged the control box and thought the light was defective. I requested a return and refund, which was granted. Then, just to be sure, we tried booting it again. After several minutes that flashing red was still on, but then it did finally switch to green.I also learned from a well specialist tech, that it is not a good idea to leave the Viqua light on if you go away for more than a week–but to turn the water feed valve off, and unplug the Viqua control box. Then, after returning from a trip, turn the water input back on and plug in the control box, and it will again go through that long boot process. We think that the reason the original OEM UV light failed after about a year and a half. [...]
