I love bowls. I really do. When I look at a set of dishes, I focus on the bowls — their shape, their size, their design. When I enter an Asian market, I go straight to the bowls. Needless to say, I have a few of them at home. So what made this one stand out for me?* Quality. This is a good ceramic bowl, great glazing technique, sturdy and stackable. It’s not so delicate that it can’t stand up to sensible everyday use.* Size. I have much bigger and smaller ones at home, but this six-inch bowl falls right into that Goldilocks “just right” middle ground. The big ones are good for a huge helping of ramen or soup; the small ones are good for a little snack — but this is perfect for everything in between — morning cereal, lunchtime curry, a medium serving of soup, some fruit and cottage cheese — whatever’s on your menu!* Portion control. Yes, this fits in with the “size” comment — it is small enough that you will not be overloading your system with too much food.* Accessories. The matching bamboo chopsticks and ceramic spoon are useful, and their design is just delightful. The bowl-part of the spoon matches the interior of the bowl itself, and the curve of the spoon handle keeps it from sliding down and disappearing into your soup.* Safe in all kinds of environments. You can put this in the dishwasher; you can put it in the microwave; the instructions even say you can put it in the freezer or in the oven. I don’t think I’ll be testing either of those, because I can’t think why I’d put it in either of those places, but it’s nice to know I could if I wanted to.* Pure loveliness! I love the blue-and-white designs. The pattern on the inside of the bowl is different from the exterior, which makes it more interesting. The accessories show a similar attention to beautiful design. Heck, even the box it came in was pretty!* Expandable! If you fall in love with this bowl (hey, it happens to us bowl-a-philes!) you should check out the other ceramic dishes from this company — they repeat the blue-and-white vibe, but in different patterns, so they are complimentary rather than matching exactly. When you see them all together, they look wonderful.This was my first order from this company, but it won’t be my last!
